Online store development in Estonia
solanasite builds online stores for small businesses in Estonia — with a product catalogue, cart, online payments and parcel machine delivery. The store runs on the studio’s own engine, so payments and shipping do not have to be assembled from plugins.

What the online store includes
- A catalogue with categories, photos, descriptions and product search.
- A cart and checkout designed for mobile.
- Online payments via Montonio: Estonian bank links and card payments.
- Delivery to Omniva, DPD or SmartPosti parcel machines via Montonio Shipping.
- An orders section in the admin panel and new-order notifications to Telegram and email.
- Discount codes for promotions.
- Templates for terms of sale, returns policy and privacy policy.
- English, Estonian and Russian versions of the store.
Payments and shipping: built in vs custom
Montonio covers the methods Estonian shoppers use most: paying through their own online bank or by card, and choosing a parcel machine at checkout. The store signs its own agreement with Montonio; the studio connects it to the site.
Shoppers pick a parcel machine right in the cart, and the delivery fee is added before payment — no follow-up emails to confirm addresses or shipping costs.
| Solution | What it provides | Status in the engine |
|---|---|---|
| Montonio | Bank links and card payments | Built in |
| Montonio Shipping | Omniva, DPD and SmartPosti parcel machines | Built in |
| Maksekeskus | Alternative payment provider | Custom development |
| Stripe | Cards, international buyers | Custom development |
E-commerce requirements in Estonia
When selling to consumers, the law requires certain information to be visible before purchase. The legal page templates cover the essentials, but the terms are always adapted to your products. Supervision is carried out by the Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority (TTJA), which publishes guidance for online sellers.
- Company name, address, email and phone number shown on the site.
- The full price including taxes, and delivery costs, before checkout.
- A 14-day right of withdrawal from the day the goods are received, with exceptions such as made-to-order items.
- Clear terms on who pays for return shipping.
- Refunds without undue delay and no later than 14 days after withdrawal.
- Consumer information in Estonian, even if the store also operates in other languages.
- Since 28 June 2025, accessibility requirements apply to e-commerce; microenterprises providing services are exempt.
A catalogue that is easy to manage
You update products, prices, photos and stock in the admin panel yourself. The catalogue can be imported from an old store or a spreadsheet as part of the project; the scope of that migration is estimated upfront.
When your company registers for VAT, the rate is switched on in settings and the store starts showing tax as a separate line — no rebuild needed.
How an online store project runs
- You describe your range, payment and delivery methods, and languages.
- The studio prepares a quote and a materials list: products, photos, terms of sale.
- The store is built on a staging address and payments are tested in test mode.
- The catalogue is filled or migrated; customer emails and notifications are checked.
- After launch, you receive a guide to managing orders.
Running the store after launch
Orders, their statuses and customer details are kept together in the admin panel. Staff can be given access to orders and the catalogue without access to settings, while discount codes stay under the owner’s control.
Built-in analytics show how many people visit and which pages they view, without third-party trackers. Hosting, updates and backups are covered by the studio’s monthly maintenance.
What affects the cost of an online store
- catalogue size and whether products need to be migrated;
- number of languages;
- payment and delivery methods beyond the built-in ones;
- special cases: made-to-order items, wholesale prices, click-and-collect;
- writing product descriptions and taking product photos.
Pricing
The cost depends on the scope
Starting prices are shown on each service page and on the Pricing page. The exact cost depends on the scope — languages, sections, payments, booking — and is worked out for the task and fixed in the quote and the contract before work starts.
Describe the task
What the site has to do, who it is for and what takes up your time today. A reply comes within 24 hours — with clarifying questions or a preliminary estimate of cost and timing.
Quote and deadline in the contract
What is included, for how much and by when is fixed before the work starts. The price does not grow along the way: new large sections are priced separately and in advance, not on the invoice.
Monthly maintenance
Hosting, certificate, platform and security updates, backups and small edits — a separate monthly line in the quote. Domain renewal is paid to the registrar unless the contract says otherwise. If you decide to leave, you take the content as an archive and the domain, which is registered in your name.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Do we need a separate agreement with Montonio?
Yes, the store signs its own agreement with the payment provider. The studio connects it to the site and tests payments before launch.
Can Maksekeskus or Stripe be connected?
Yes, but they are not built into the engine: the integration is custom development and is included in the project quote.
Are the store’s legal pages ready to use?
There are templates for terms of sale, returns and privacy. They need to be completed with your company and product details, and it is worth having a lawyer review them if in doubt.
How many products can the store hold?
The engine is designed for small and medium-sized catalogues. If you have a very large range or products come from an accounting system, this is discussed before the quote is prepared.
Can we sell outside Estonia?
Yes, as long as delivery and payment methods allow it. Foreign buyers usually need an English version and a suitable shipping option, which is worth discussing at the start.
How long does it take to launch an online store?
A store is the largest type of project: besides the build, the catalogue has to be filled and payments and shipping tested. The deadline is in the contract and depends mostly on when products and photos are ready.
How are we notified of new orders?
A notification arrives in Telegram and by email, and all orders with their statuses are visible in the admin panel.
